Walter collected this larch in April 2000. Some notes:
discovered 1999, grown on stone, 1200 meter above sea level, STONE AGE AX in the roots!!!, it was easily
removed from the ground containing nearly all roots.
It was planted into the final pot at once because of the intensive growth (first organic fertilizing after 300 years).
Now again new young shoots in August. The final forming will take place in March 2001.
At least 300 years old, height now 102 cm, trunk diameter at the bottom 45 cm, pot made by Derek Aspinall. |

When I collected the tree I got tired and set on the huge rock on which the tree was sitting. I saw the ancient path going through the rocks and thought how it must have been a few thousand years ago when lonley wanderers came down from the pass. A burgler would have chosen exactly my place, seening everything and not being seen.
When I came home and potted my larch I found a strange looking stone in the rootball. Beyond doubt it is a stone ax which must be several thousand years old.
Is it possible, that the stone-age burgler lost his life and his axe when the lonely wanderer was a bit smarter?
