ZENITH DEFY REF. A3649

Fine and very rare stainless steel tonneau-shaped diver’s wristwatch with 2 tone dial and date.

Vintage collectors  call this watch "Plongeur" or "SubSea". Zenith wanted to introduce a robust and at the same time an aesthetic diving watch. The octagonal case shape should better withstand the water pressure at depth. The distinctive orange elements provided improved visibility during the dive. The dial is protected by a domed mineral glass. To make the watch definitely waterproof, the watch glass is surrounded by a special steel ring.

It is a 38 mm diameter stainless steel barrel-shaped case. Screwed crown and case back. 60 mn graduated black rotating bakelite bezel. Orange and black dial, date window between 4 and 5. Luminescent hour markers and hands, oversized minute hand and central second hand. Self-winding mechanical movement, calibre 2252.

In addition, this Zenith Defy A3649 is accompanied by an original Gay Frères stainless steel bracelet with the Zenith clasp. Those ladder bracelets are very rare today. The bracelet is stamped with 2/70 (2nd quarter 1970).
