AIRAIN TYPE 20 – two register Flyback Cronograph – Valjoux 222

Dial: black with luminous Arabic numerals, subsidiary dial for seconds and 30-minute and 1/5th second track with radial Arabic five-second numerals

Hands: luminous steel baton hands

Movement: Cal. Valjoux 222, flyback chronograph, movement number: 2521

Period: 1960’s

Condition: watch has got a service in 2010, it’s a safe queen, all over original, never polished, all functions are working as they should!

AIRAIN Type 20 is a rare, quite wanted collectors piece. Made fort the French Army, based on the Dodane, it has been selected not only for combat pilots, but also also for helicopter and French NATO units. The absolute top model of the collection was the, nowadays sought after, AIRAIN Type 20 Chronograph.
Watches without FG marks were also issued to ALAT (Aviation légère de l'armée de terre), who flew helicopters and light planes.
Those units used civilian watchmakers to service, that's why no FG marks outside are visible but usual watchmakers service marks inside the caseback.
AIRAIN is an old french word for "made of steel" what consequently shows the timepiece-collection´s orientation.
